Paul Adam writes thrillers from multifarious angles and sources with convincing description and gripping story lines. I am always amazed by the originality and variation of his stories. This did not disappoint me.

I am a Paul Adam fan and couldn’t wait to read his latest book. It didn’t disappoint, although I thought it was very different in style to his earlier books. To learn of the lifestyle of Jelly Roll Morton and his fellow musicians was fascinating – Jazz aficionados will recognise some names. Discovering the intrigue surrounding a murder and the search for the killer, which includes a trip into the Mississippi swamps makes gripping reading.

Loved it. I was led to Paganini’s Ghost ages ago and became an instant Paul Adam fan…I loved his old violin maker and wanted more. Well, there was really only one more and I despaired and abandoned Mr. Adam. My mistake! Dixieland is great fun though not in a laughing sense. The flavour post-civil war Louisiana is nicely drawn without being overbearing or pedantic. I enjoyed the characters and got hooked early in the story. Try it…put some old jazz or blues on the stereo and kick back…and wait and see if the bad guy gets his just desserts.

This is the fourth book I’ve read by Paul Adam and it is up to his usual standard. He is a good storyteller with an unpretentious style. Always a good read.
