Max Cassidy Book 1

Escape from Shadow Island

Escapology is dangerous, but not nearly as dangerous as real life...

Max Cassidy is a teenage escapologist, so good he’s nicknamed the Half-Pint Houdini. His father disappeared two years ago and his body has never been found. His mother is now serving a twenty-year sentence for her husband’s murder. Max’s mission: to learn the truth about what really happened and bring his family back together.

One evening, after one of his London escapology shows, Max is visited by a mysterious man from Santo Domingo who tells him that his father is alive and that his mother’s trial was rigged.

When Max goes to meet the man a second time he finds him dead, shot through the head, but discovers a piece of paper with a strange sequence of numbers written on it.

Max realises the numbers could be his only chance to unlock the mystery of his father’s disappearance. Desperate to find out what really happened to him, and to seek justice for his mother, he goes to Santo Domingo where the trail leads to the sinister fortress and former prison, the Isla de Sombra – Shadow Island.

What has been going on in the island’s grim cells? Max must try to find out, then use all his escapology skills to outwit his enemies and survive.

What an awesome, thrilling way to start a series of novels. I know I’m not a teenager but I really, really enjoyed reading this book. A thumping good read.

I read “Max Cassidy Escape from Shadow Island” ALOUD to our boys in three days! They would not let me stop reading. At the end of every chapter they would chant, “Read another chapter! Read another chapter!” This book keeps you on the edge of your seat from the very first chapter.

Amazon Customer Review

I received this book on Friday and was sooo excited to read about an escapologist that I started it right away and the story was so brilliant that I read it in a day! I couldn’t put the book down and I thought it is a fantastic idea for a series! Fans of Artemis Fowl and Alex Rider will love this book, there is fantastic action and the originality of the escapologist angle is absolutely brilliant

Awesome book, can’t wait to read the next one!

Goodreads

Action-adventure at its best, a la Alex Rider, James Bond, and Dirk Pitt….Tons of fun.

Voice of Youth Advocates

Super thriller for early teens featuring a junior escapologist looking for his missing father. It’s exciting, pacy and accessible, and they’ll lap it up.

The Bookbag

My eleven-year-old – once he got round to reading it – couldn’t be pried from this book. I read the opening chapters with him to get him going, and fully intend to go back and read the full novel, which my son described as ‘phenomenal’. He liked the descriptions of escapology and reports that the writing made him feel he was inside the story.
