Knife Edge

A Gripping Thriller of Murder, Exploitation, and the True Cost of Cheap Food

Investigative journalist Joe Verdi never thought twice about where his food came from – until a brutal murder pulls him into the shadowy world of migrant labour and industrial farming.

When a Kurdish refugee is slaughtered in London, his widow, Irena, becomes the only witness who can bring down a ruthless Turkish trafficking ring. But Irena vanishes into East Anglia’s hidden world of illegal farmworkers – where gangmasters rule with an iron fist, and silence is the price of survival.

At the same time, a deadly typhoid outbreak threatens to spread across the country, and the only connection between the victims is a major supermarket chain. As Joe and his colleague Ellie Mason dig deeper, they uncover a shocking conspiracy – one that links organised crime, corporate greed, and a broken food system.

Going undercover as a migrant worker, Joe must find Irena before the traffickers do. But the closer he gets to the truth, the more powerful forces move to stop him. Exposing the reality behind Britain’s cheap food industry could cost him everything – including his life.

Reviews for Knife Edge

I could not put this book down. A really tightly written thriller which has opened my eyes to what goes on in the world of agriculture and supermarkets. The sense of location and desperation is so well described. A story which could almost be a docudrama.

Amazon Customer Review

This is about the 4th Paul Adam book I’ve read…I’ve loved them all and this one didn’t disappoint! As with some of his other books, the story line is brilliantly researched and incredibly topical – the all-powerful supermarkets, illegal immigrants and potential disease epidemics. You feel as you read it that it could all be happening right now – frighteningly believable! The main characters are great too – funny, interesting, quirky and real. It really was a compulsive read, and one of those books you’re disappointed to finish. I really hope there’s another one from Adam soon!

Amazon Customer Review

Paul Adam is to be congratulated in taking a topical and emotive subject and turning it into an immensely readable book.

Amazon Customer Review

I’ve read all Paul Adam’s books and as always this is not only a gripping thriller but also the author has obviously thoroughly researched his subject. This is an eye opening and all too believable story about the possible fate of illegal immigrants to the UK. Definitely worth a read.
